What is Suboxone?

Suboxone is a treatment for dependence on opiates such as heroin, codeine, oxycodone, etc. It is not for use as a pain medication.

Buprenorphine, also known as Suboxone, is a partial opiate agonist that relieves drug cravings without producing the high. The medication tricks the brain into thinking it is still getting the opiate. It is administered orally - usually a film strip placed under the tongue - and taken daily by the patient.

Why use Suboxone for opiate addiction?

Suboxone works to reduce the strong cravings of addiction to opiate while also reducing the discomforts of withdrawal symptoms.

What is Vivitrol?

Vivitrol is an opiate antagonist which blocks all effects of the opiate. The patient taking the medication receives no rewarding effects from use of an opiate. It can be administered orally in pill form and taken daily OR as a monthly injection administered by a medical professional.

Is treatment offered in addition to medication?

Yes. Treatment is a required component to receive medication. A therapist will work with you to develop a treatment plan addressing your treatment needs.

How long does treatment last?

Treatment varies from case to case. Length of time will depend on the individuals’ progress.  Patient and counselor will discuss this during the treatment phase.
