Vagee

Growing up, Vagee never saw alcohol or marijuana as a problem, but they were the beginning of years of substance abuse. By 26, she was addicted to meth. When she found out she was pregnant, she tried to stay sober but relapsed, leading to an open Children’s Protective Services case. After her children were placed in foster care, Vagee knew she had to make a change.

She completed a six-month program and remained in recovery for nearly a year before relapsing during COVID. Determined to turn her life around, she entered Gateways at Talbert House in November 2021. There, she gained the tools and support needed for lasting recovery. Today, Vagee is a devoted parent, a dedicated employee, and an active member of the recovery community. Sobriety has given her a new lease on life, and she is grateful for the journey.

“My worst day clean is better than my best day using. And I am grateful.”

Group Therapy

Based on ASAM, here are the following levels of care that we provide.

Intensive Outpatient

When beginning, each patient first meets one-on-one with their assigned provider to develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to their specific needs. This personalized plan guides the patient’s care throughout their time at Gateways. Intensive Outpatient then consists of nine hours of group therapy per week, delivered over three days (three hours per day). To support the best outcomes, patients are expected to attend and complete all scheduled Intensive Outpatient sessions.

Outpatient

Based on their initial assessment and individual needs, patients may enter directly into Outpatient. Once patients successfully complete Intensive Outpatient, they transition to Outpatient treatment. Patients are expected to attend weekly and/or monthly continuing care groups.

Case Management

Case managers support individuals with substance use disorder. Our case managers provide comprehensive assistance, helping clients navigate their unique challenges and achieve stability.

Services include symptom monitoring, assistance with benefit applications, and support with housing, medication, budgeting, and vocational needs.

Individual Counseling

Outpatient Counseling consists of one-on-one counseling sessions with a licensed/certified counselor. Counseling is individualized and addresses the patient's specific identified needs. The patient and provider work together to schedule sessions.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication Assisted Treatment helps patients cope with an addiction to prescription drugs/heroin (opioids). Our medical and treatment teams provide medication in combination with withdrawal management and counseling (outpatient and/or intensive outpatient) that comprehensively addresses all aspects of opioid dependence. Gateways utilize Suboxone and Vivitrol as part of MAT services.

New patients first undergo an assessment for opioid dependency and physical examination by a primary care physician (including recent lab results) to determine if the patient is eligible for MAT. Medication will not be prescribed without the patient being involved in treatment.

Woman

Sandra

Sandra’s story is one of resilience. After losing her mother at nine, she sought belonging but fell into addiction. Homeless and trapped in a cycle of shame, she lost hope.

Talbert House’s Gateway program changed everything. She found support at the Engagement Center and moved into Jordan House, where she embraced recovery. "I didn’t realize addiction was a disease of the mind, body, and spirit." The 12-step program helped her heal, make amends, and rebuild her life.

Now sober, Sandra cherishes her family, sponsors women in recovery, and volunteers. "Helping others helps me stay sober." Her journey proves recovery is possible, one step at a time.
